10th November 2021: In accordance with the objectives of COP26, ANSL has signed up to the SME Climate Commitment*, which will see the company halve its greenhouse gas emissions by 50 per cent by 2030 and achieve net zero emissions before 2050.
The commitment, championed by the UK Government, is supported by the United Nations Race to Zero campaign, and will allow ANSL to combine forces with businesses, cities, regions, and universities around the world seeking to tackle the ‘climate crisis’.
The signing follows ANSL’s creation of a dedicated sustainability working group and development of a five-point sustainability strategy.
Sustainability Lead, Vicki Hughes explained: “There has been real passion and enthusiasm right across ANSL for mapping out our baselines and laying down deliverable targets.
“COP26 has provided a powerful stimulus for action and we have already begun the challenging task of producing our first annual ESG report.”
In addition to establishing suitable and dedicated structures, ANSL has actively progressed a number of internal and external initiatives including selecting electric cars for the ANSL fleet at Gatwick and Edinburgh Airports and running a series of sustainability workshops focusing on different areas of the business’ operations.
ANSL Managing Director, Henry Game said: “We are taking responsibility for our impact on the planet and will continue our efforts to reduce our carbon footprint. We are committed to playing our part in making the aviation industry more sustainable, and to working closely with our customers and partners to support their and wider industry initiatives.
“Our sustainability strategy will ensure we balance environmental, economic and social targets on our journey to improve long-term value for the business and wider stakeholders.”
In the next three years specific attention will be paid to:
- Reducing direct greenhouse emissions
- Reviewing Supply Chain Management in order to identify opportunities to lower carbon footprints and improve business efficiency
- Supporting customer airports and stakeholders in their sustainability objectives
ANSL’s broader ESG activities include the formation of a dedicated Diversity & Inclusion committee, collaborating with more than 200 other companies to improve gender balance within aviation and aerospace as a Signatory of the Women in Aviation and Aerospace Charter, and working closely with Aviation Action, a mental health and support charity.
