“International Women’s Day is an opportunity for us to celebrate the achievements of women globally and recognise the positive impact of women on any group, team and organisation. Acknowledging and raising awareness of the importance of gender equality can only help to accelerate gender parity and support a future free from stigma, stereotypes and violence.
“I am proud that the majority of our staff are on spine point pay scales, which removes any gender pay inequality, and that ANSL is a signatory of the Women in Aviation Charter. I am also very proud to work with some amazingly brilliant, capable and competent women who are fundamental to the success of our business and culture.”
– Peter Waller, HR Director, ANSL
In honour of #IWD2020, we wanted to share the perspective of two of the women working at ANSL – Larné Johannie, who has been with us for over 4 and a half years, and Holly Dimmick, who joined a few months ago. Read on to learn about their experience of working at ANSL, and how their experience compares to the expectations they had when choosing ANSL.
Why did you choose to work at ANSL, what were your expectations?
Holly: I chose to work at ANSL because the idea of a young, flexible, and dynamic company interested me. The company’s values are echoed by their employees and their charm and charisma assured me that my highly regarded personal philosophy of truly enjoying my job would be undeniably achieved. I expected a male dominated company, as is the case in much of the industry, but was delighted to witness such a mix when I arrived. Not only are women well represented, but there is an eclectic combination of personalities in the team, and everyone has been the most welcoming.
Larné: The idea of working in a young company and in a new industry was exciting for me. As I have never worked in aviation, I did not have any expectations as such, but I definitely have gained an appreciation of all the hard work that goes behind each and every flight.
What has been a highlight of your time here so far?
Holly: Helping to deliver the Business Insights Webinar was challenging yet immensely rewarding. The team worked closely to ensure the data analysis ran smoothly and our ambition in what we could achieve was a success. I hope to be involved in more webinars in the future and I am proud of the hard work that went in to carry out such a polished, engaging event.
Larné: Oh, there have been many. Meeting so many different people with such varying roles to what I do. I would also say going to Edinburgh was a highlight, seeing the Edinburgh tower at night and the views from the top is pretty awesome!
What is the reality of working at ANSL, having worked here for a few weeks (Holly) or years (Larne)?
Holly: Joining a new company during a pandemic is unusual, yet ANSL has made my introduction seamless and has supported my every need to get comfortable with the new normal of working from home. My immediate and wider team have made me feel at home with their friendliness and I truly feel like one of the team. Throughout the company, there is a refreshing common attitude of positivity, open-mindedness, and a drive to succeed. From my time working here, I have witnessed this outlook propagating into creative forward thinking within multiple collaborative groups to achieve the best results for all.
Larné: It is a great company to work for. The people are great and the fast pace, always busy, culture definitely keeps me going.
